Aurigny Prepares For Possible Phase 5c Move

Aurigny says it will be flying to range of UK destinations from 21 September, if border restrictions are relaxed.

The airline has published schedules that include services to Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

It says it is expected any change in lockdown rules to stimulate the need for travel, adding it will be keeping an eye on border changes and will give two weeks' notice to any passenger if cancellations are to take place.

Any passengers affected will be contacted and offered a different booking or refund credit.

CEO Mark Darby says, despite the ongoing uncertainty, many customers are eager to start planning winter travel.

“However, we also know and understand why the States cannot yet commit to a date for moving to Phase 5c and any further relaxation of the self-isolation rules. We have to be realistic and acknowledge that, without further changes in the self-isolation requirements, demand is most unlikely to pick up to the level needed to make this flying programme viable. Therefore this schedule will be subject to change if demand does not warrant it being flown.

All airlines are facing this kind of challenge where it’s very difficult to plan for even a few weeks or months in the future. We need to prepare for the possibility that more travel with fewer restrictions will be possible, which is why we are announcing this new schedule. But we also need to be really up front with our customers so they are aware that the restrictions may not change, in which case we’ll need to cancel their flights. We absolutely want people to plan their travel fully understanding the situation and how it might change.”
