Two Channel Island victories at the 2026 Cherry Godfrey Cup.
Today (27 June), the second-ever Cherry Godfrey Cup took place at Guernsey's Victoria Park.
Having both lost yesterday, it was a battle for third place between Guernsey and the Isle of Wight. (IOW)
It was seconds into the game when Guernsey’s Heidi Dawber scored.
In the 21st minute, Dawber made it 2-0.
Then, after a short hydration break, Dawber made it a hat-trick. 3-0 to the Greens.
Just before half time, IOW got close to the net, but Guernsey goalie Alana Hockey saved it… Then, a fumble, Hockey dropped the ball, allowing IOW’s Thea Broadhead to get it in the back of the net. 3-1
All the action in the second half was saved until the end.
Millie Jefferys got her first career goal. 4-1
And in the 91st minute Emilie Jeffreys found the back of the net, making the final score 5-1!
Next up was Jersey vs the Isle of Man (IOM), a rematch essentially, as the inaugural Cherry Godfrey Cup final in 2024 saw the same teams pitted against each other - with the Manx team winning on penalties.
This year, the first half ended with IOM up 1-0 after a goal from Sarah Wignall at 31 minutes.
And then in the 89th minute, Jersey’s Natasha Keen scored the equaliser.
After four minutes of extra time, it was 1-all, so it was down to penalties (once again).
It was tense, and the crowd was loud, but in the end, Jersey came out on top! Winning 6-5 on penalties.
