From April 2024, Guernsey menus will start showing which dishes contain locally sourced ingredients.
Chantal Lee Rautenbach came up with the concept of 'The Guernsey Mark'.
She says she was inspired by the "Genuine Jersey" stamp and given a grant from the Tourism Development Fund.
She says more places advertising their use of food that is either made, grown or reared locally will have several benefits:
"it will promote local produce, while engaging with local producers, and showcasing not only to locals,, but tourists too, which dishes on menus are using local products."
Ms Rautenbach says sourcing ingredients locally is more sustainable than importing, and should also appeal to tourists, ultimately boosting the economy.
She hopes to expand the idea to hotels and shops in the future.
"People are really interested in knowing where their food comes from these days.
We are fortunate on a small island how much is made locally - and I think it's really important we appreciate small producers."
She describes what the mark will look like:
"We started off using a destination mark, like on a map, and we've created a G that fits within that mark - obviously standing for Guernsey.
It needed to be something really clean and crisp so it could be used on everybody's menus."
