Owner Sure says the two boxes at the Town bus terminus were beyond repair and under used.
Work to remove the two phone boxes, which sat side by side, was mainly complete within days.
The place where they sat now just needs tarmac.
Sure, which owns the infrastructure, says it is not economic to buy and re-install refurbished phone boxes.

CEO Alistair Beak says it is a shame they had to go, but they were under used, given the majority of people have smartphones.
“We understand the community’s fondness for these iconic structures.
While we appreciate the heritage value they hold, we must also balance this with practical considerations around maintenance and usage."
He says investment will be targeted at digital services:
“We are living increasingly digital lives, and Sure is focusing investment on infrastructure and services that better reflect how people communicate today.”
