A French rescue helicopter was drafted in to rescue a climber who had fallen from cliffs at Sorel Point.
An emergency call was made just before 7pm on Thursday (15 September).
The climber had been scaling the cliffs when he fell and suffered multiple injuries.
The rescue operation included a rope rescue unit, two fire engines and a multi-purpose all-terrain vehicle alongside a duty fire officer.
A firefighter was lowered down to asses the condition of the casualty and to see if it was possible to lift him up to the cliff top.
It was decided to call in a French SAR helicopter, along with St Catherine's lifeboat and the Fire Service inshore rescue craft in case other rescue options were needed.
A second firefighter was lowered down the cliff to prepare for the helicopter’s arrival.
The climber was airlifted to safety and taken to hospital. His condition is unknown.
